How to find IDEAL clients!
We get inundated with ads, webinars, and master classes offering some life-saving lead generation technique that will bring in millions of dollars insanely fast. Realistically, there is no magic formula to generating QUALITY leads. Your techniques should be unique to you and your business.
So what do we do?
First, stop worrying about your method - ads, direct outreach, mailings, etc - and start worrying about WHO you are trying to reach!
NICHE DOWN and identify your clients. What specific package, product, or service are you offering? And who exactly is your ideal client?
“So I offer [a bunch of different things] and can help [basically anyone]!”
Again, NICHE DOWN. You will not find ideal clients without being able to identify exactly who they are. Pick your highest ticket offer, or the service/product you most want to sell. If you’re a freelance writer, pick your favorite topic. Build a client profile around that offer. Be specific. Find these people and list commonalities, e.g.:
Age
Industry
Gender
Economic Status
Interests
Education
Laser focus on one offer to your ideal client will not kill your sales for other services or products. It will bring in MORE sales for your favorite package, and it will also organically connect you with MORE people who fit into alternate packages.
Find them. You now have a list of very specific details on your ideal client. So where do they hang out?

Remember, you’re looking for your ideal clients based on THEIR characteristics and interests. Not yours, not those of your service or product. Put yourself in their shoes.
If you’re a writer and you’re really into saving elephants, figure out where people who own related publications or organizations are. Google them, find their Facebook page (their “likes” are public). Spoiler alert: They are NOT hanging out in freelance writing groups.
Engage: Post, comment, engage. Help people get to know, like, and trust you. Provide value, and establish yourself as an expert.
Newsflash: this is YOUR niche! You ARE the expert! Beat back impostor syndrome with a stick.
Don’t just jump into groups looking for sales. The ultimate goal is to get them to come to you! The sales mindset can make you come off as, well.. salesy.
But don’t let that comment stop you from referencing what you do (in context), reaching out, and making offers. Maintain laser focus on engaging within your niche and with your ideal client, and sales conversations happen organically.
Where relevant - reach out directly to individuals and organizations you’d like to work with. Create your own groups, pages, and public content on topics that appeal to your ideal client (bonus expert points here - as admin and content provider, you’re automatically seen as an authority on the subject).
Remember: This is a process. It takes consistency. If you’re not seeing your ideal clients, go back to step one. Once you find them and start engaging, don’t quit after a week because you haven’t had any sales yet. Establish yourself by providing value and reaching out consistently.
START. Take action that aligns with your goals. Don’t avoid outreach because you need to design the perfect logo first. Your logo isn’t going to bring in clients. Action is. Remember: imperfect action is better than no action.
Now go get them!
